Photographer and Author Profile

In the abandoned space, the line between permanence and disposability becomes blurred, creating inner reflections on mortality and our inevitable human destinies.

Shane Thoms is a photographer based in the rural Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. Educated in Fine Art photography at Monash University, Charles Sturt University and the Australian Academy of Design, his work explores the discarded urban space from a cross-cultural perspective.

His first book 'Haikyo - the Modern Ruins of Japan' was released in 2017. His second book titled 'Abandoned Australia' was released in 2019. Participating in the Australia Through Time series, he released Abandoned South Australia in 2022. The next book in this series, 'Abandoned New South Wales' will be released in August 2023.
